An exhibition of contemporary artists books, including works by artists from the USA and Australia.
Artists books are individually made, often one-offs, or in small editions. They have the element of the hand-made about them but are beautifully finished and often very professionally constructed. Books in this exhibition contain printmaking, drawing and stitching and are in all manner of forms – bound, concertina, fold-out or wall-mounted. Artists are also showing elements of other practice – paintings, drawings and prints.

‘Making books is a wonderfully satisfying and compulsive activity. The idea evolves, it filters into consciousness and over time it begins to take shape in the mind. Then comes the lovely moment of playing with bits of paper to see which format suits it best visually and emotionally. For me a book is a distillation of an experience often with an element of recording something that will never exist or happen again.’ Noelle Griffiths
A series of workshops accompanies the exhibition contact Honor Pedican on 01978 292641 for further details.
A small brochure with essays by Sarah Bodman, Research Fellow for Artists’ Books at the University of the West of England and by artist Noelle Griffiths accompanies the exhibition.
