Personal Masterclasses in Jessie’s studio for individuals and Small Groups

I warmly invite you to join me here at my private South London studio for in-person masterclasses. Enjoy a precious day with me, Jessie, on your own or book to come with friends or travel buddies.

My one-to-one masterclasses are deeply rooted in my personal approach and style of hand embroidery. My own artwork explores storytelling and mark-making through hand embroidery and applique techniques. For me, both are forms of drawing. And this is what I will teach, encourage and share with you during your time at my studio..

I am passionate about encouraging my students and fellow stitchers to explore their own personal approach to storytelling and mark-making through technical embroidery and applique techniques. A day at my studio will be an immersive experience and I will share and demonstarte many of my signature techniques. We will explore my favourite stitches, couching techniques, needle-turned applique, reverse applique, among various different ways of designing a panel, creating borders, colour choosing and finishing techniques.

My classes always include an inspiration kit/goodie bag (as part of the class fee), which I create in advance specially for each student. I will always suggest and encourage you to bring along personal items to incorporate into the work which you make on the day. These might include precious fabrics, favourite threads, personal keepsakes, ribbons, lace, buttons, a memory, a significant life event, a drawing, a poem or a single word. What would you bring?

I encourage you to enjoy a private studio masterclass without focusing too much on finishing your work. Instead, I suggest you approach our time together as an explorative, slow-stitching experience, embracing and learning many new techniques whilst taking inspiration from the original artworks, collections and materials which will surround you here at my studio.

My masterclasses are suitable for all abilities. Beginners are always very welcome.

Classes are five hours in length. My usual routine is 11 am-4 pm. I am flexible with starting times.

Types of Masterclass

I offer various styles of classes and I am very flexible when it comes to what you will focus on and make during your time with me. I strongly encourage choosing your project and focus for your class in person with me at the start of your day. This is often the best approach as you will have time when you arrive to look through many of my original samples and artworks. You will be welcomed with tea or coffee, and during this time you can freely enjoy choosing fabrics, threads and a focus for your day ahead.

My famous and ever-evolving ‘Stories in Stitch’ class is usually a chosen favourite. This well-attended class, like my own work, has evolved over the years since I wrote it back in 2008. It’s still a favourite for new students and returning students.

How to book your masterclass

Please contact me and include your full name, the country you are travelling from and some dates for me to choose from. Please try to give me a few dates if possible. Feel free to ask me any creative ideas/questions or queries. I like to make my one-to-one masterclasses as bespoke an experience as possible.

My Studio Address
My studio address and travel guidance will be shared once you contact me and your booking is underway. I like to keep my studio private so I can carry on sewing and running my classes in peace amongs this busy modern world.

Terms and Conditions

For private masterclasses with me, Jessie Chorley, at my South London studio, I take 20% of the overall fee as a deposit to secure your booking; the outstanding balance is due on the day of your masterclass. If you cancel your masterclass for any reason, the 20% deposit is non-refundable. However, you can reschedule your masterclass, provided you give me at least 3-days notice in advance of your original masterclass date.

In the unlikely event that I, Jessie Chorley, have to cancel your masterclass for an unavoidable reason, your 20% deposit will be refunded in total. Alternatively, you can rebook your masterclass for a new date that works for both of us.

Copyright/Legal

Please note that the techniques taught in my masterclasses are for personal use and inspiration only; they must not be used in commercial projects. No photography is permitted inside my studio, unless you are documenting, your own working process on the day of your class.
