Personal Classes in Jessie’s Studio for Individuals and Small Groups

I invite you to join me here at my South London studio for in-person embroidery classes and explorative days of sewing time in my company.

My Personal Classes are carefully structured as creative making days and deeply rooted in my intuitive approach and unique style of hand embroidery. You will be stitching in my private studio while immersed in my world, surrounded by my fabrics, threads and items collected over time and on my travels.

A day at my studio is an enjoyable, absorbing experience, where I share and demonstrate many of my signature techniques with you. Together, we will explore my favourite embroidery stitches, as well as couching techniques, needle-turned appliqué, reverse appliqué and darning and mending methods. I will also show you different methods for starting, planning and finishing techniques, including simple ways to hang your completed embroidery.

My own artwork focuses on storytelling, drawing and mark-making through embroidery and appliqué, and during the day I will help you to consider what your own style and approach to hand embroidery might be.

To support this, I encourage students to bring along personal items to incorporate into the work they start on the day. Suggestions include precious fabrics, favourite threads, personal keepsakes, ribbons, lace and buttons. A drawing, poem, memory or significant life event, even a single word, can also act as inspiration.

A Personal Class with me can be as technical or immersive as you wish, or simply a relaxing and explorative day of stitching in my company. A popular class style is to select and work on one of my many pre-printed embroidery templates, a pincushion template or even a small brooch project, or you could focus on making your own narartive based panel or even a fabric book.

Class Types and Styles

I teach a variety of class types and styles in my Personal Classes and am flexible when it comes to what you make during your time with me. What you create really is your choice! Unless you already have a project in mind, I strongly suggest choosing what you will make when you arrive on the day of your class.

At the start of your Personal Class day, you will have plenty of time to look through my samples, templates and artworks, and to enjoy selecting your fabrics, threads and a project/projects for your day.

You are also very welcome to bring along your own versions of any of my signature Templates and Slow Stitch Projects which you may have tucked away currently as works in progress!

A day of planning, working through,
or completing things can be just as rewarding as starting something new.

All tools are provided for you but do bring your favourite needles and scissors if you wish to.

Book this special time just for you or come with friends and stitching buddies.

My Personal Classes are suitable for all abilities and

are five hours long. They usually take place 11am-4pm, however I can adapt class start times to suit you, my followers, friends and fellow stitchers.

How to Book your Personal Class

To book a Personal Class please email me. I usually take bookings several months in advance. I can also accept last-minute bookings if I am available! When emailing, please include your name, the country you are travelling from and, if possible, please suggest a few dates for me to choose from. Feel free to include any questions or creative suggestions for your upcoming class. I always like to know a little about you, as I aim to make my in-person classes as personal as possible.

Booking Terms and Conditions

For Personal Classes with me, Jessie Chorley, at my South London studio, I require 20% of the overall class fee as a deposit to secure your booking. I will send you an invoice for your deposit. Once your deposit is paid, I will email you your class confirmation. Please keep this email confirmation safe, as it will contain my studio address, the date and time of your class, plus a suggested materials list. If you cancel your Personal Class for any reason, the 20% deposit is non-refundable. However, you can reschedule your Personal Class, provided you give me at least three days’ notice in advance of your original class date.

Final payments for 1-2 people classes can be paid in person at my studio on the day of your class. Final payments for group bookings of 3-7 people must be paid three days in advance of your class. I will send you an invoice.

If you are booking for a group of 3-7 people, I recommend you nominate one person to represent and oversee the booking of your group class. Group payments must be paid by one person and not paid individually by each member of your group.

In the unlikely event that I, Jessie Chorley, have to cancel your Personal Class for any unavoidable reason, your 20% deposit will be refunded in total. Alternatively, you can rebook your Personal Class for a new date that works for both of us.
